LIPAedge maximizes the operation of our electric system by shaving the EDGE off the extra electric use present in each customer's CAC system. It does this two ways - neither of which will harm your system or significantly decrease your level of comfort. First, LIPA may temporarily adjust your unit's compressor, allowing the fan to continue to bring cool air to you. By cycling our Internet signals to thousands of CAC units on Long Island, we can tap into the extra CAC power - known as "power reserves" - without affecting your comfort.

Second, LIPA may turn the temperature setting on your thermostat up a few degress from the current setting and then return it to its previous setting when the power reserve is no longer needed.

In either case, LIPA will only be adjusting your CAC system up to seven times per summer between the hours of 2 pm and 6 pm. But even this will help relieve unusually high levels of electric demand during selected days -- which can help avoid the kinds of power crises being seen elsewhere in the United States.
